Light and Sound - Year 1 Donnybrook and Kalkallo
During Term 4, the Year 1 classrooms at Donnybrook and Kalkallo have been a cacophony of noise as students investigate the idea that light and sound can be produced from a range of sources; and can be sensed. Students have explored that sound is produced by creating vibrations, using methods such as striking, scraping and blowing; and that sound is sensed by the soundwaves reaching our ear drums and sending signals to our brains.
Indigenous Australian culture was also celebrated with the fun-filled, interactive incursion, Didgeridoo and Beats presented by the energetic Ganga of Didgeridoo Australia.
Students were introduced to the diverse types of instruments played by Indigenous Australians – and the interesting sounds these instruments produce. Ganga explained the cultural significance of the instruments and who can play them; did you know that only males can play the Didgeridoo?
Year 1 students then got the opportunity to explore the sounds produced by the instruments. Ganga guided the students to find the rhythm as they danced to the beat, and before we knew it a Year 1 dance party was afoot!
Thank you to the team at Didgeridoo Australia for providing a wonderful educational experience for the Year 1 students.
