On Monday, 10 May, the Primary school celebrated a Mother’s Day with a difference. As has become tradition, Mother’s Day is a highly anticipated event on the school calendar. In previous years we have welcomed close to 400 mums to the CGA for a special assembly followed by activities in classrooms and a morning tea in the Year 5/6 Centre. Due to crowd density limits we had to ‘think outside the square’ this year and shift our celebrations online. The week prior to Mother’s Day was very busy with a number of Assembly items needing to be pre-recorded. These included a welcome from me, Mr Sweeney reading the picture storybook ‘Some Mums’ by Nick Bland, the Performance Choir singing ‘A Mother’s Love’, students talking about why their mums are funny and of course, Prabhjeet Kaur, mother of Ashpreet (Year 5), and twins, Avinoor and Parinoor in Prep, talking about the joys of motherhood. All of these items were put together and presented to mums via class Zoom meetings. Whilst not quite the same as seeing these live, we hope our mums enjoyed the opportunity to join their children to share this celebration and receiving the framed illustration completed by each student in the Primary school.
In addition to our Mother’s Day morning, our Parents and Friends Association (PFA) worked tirelessly to plan and set up our Mother’s Day stall. On Friday, 7 May, all Primary classes visited the PFA’s stall to buy a gift for their mum or special friend. It was wonderful watching the students deliberate in an attempt to find the perfect gift. Numerous PFA volunteers gave their time to serve students and help them choose a gift. The work that our PFA do throughout the year goes largely unnoticed but one can not underestimate the difference that they make to our community. A heart felt thank you and appreciation to our PFA on behalf of our students, parents and staff.
The experiences and opportunities in the Primary school continue on a daily basis. Since our last communication, students have competed in Sports Gala days against other schools, assisted in Discovery Tours, represented the school in swimming at state level, competed in our House Cross Country event and sat their Naplan assessments. Our students have certainly let their colours shine.
