The Year 6s share their reflections on the year so far. It has been an amazing year and the Year 6s along with our new cohort 6Z have reflected on their growing maturity and readiness to take on future responsibilities and challenges.

Wellbeing
During our Wellbeing time, we learned about the similarities and differences of sympathy and empathy. Our wellbeing in class has helped me a lot. Every day I walked into class feeling calm and ready to do mindfulness exercise such as breathing and moving exercise and a feeling wheel where we identified how we felt every day. This helped me focus on what I had to do. I have learned that showing empathy is not just feeling bad or sorry for someone, it is having the ability to walk in someone else’s shoes and understand their feelings, giving them a hand, or maybe just asking them if they need help. A student’s wellbeing is very important, and, in our Health lesson, we can openly talk to our teachers if we have an issue, and we can trust them. I am someone with a positive mindset, therefore wellbeing and health lessons have helped me. - Kavina 6Y 

Inter School Sports
This year the Year 6s participated in inter-school sports. All the matches in each season were on the same day but just in different locations. In the summer seasons the sports options were basketball and cricket. The winter sports options were netball, soccer and AFL. It was real fun versing other schools on a professional court/field. Together we may have not won many games, but we sure did learn new skills, how to cooperate with our teammates, not to give up, try our best and most importantly have fun! - Tavleen 6Y

Mathematics
Maths this year was a very interesting and important subject to learn, especially for the Year 6s. We have been looking into the 4 operations, along with integers as well as how to use and solve equations using them. Some other fascinating topics we have looked into are mostly fractions, decimals and number lines and angles. These subjects were very interesting and enjoyable. - Harvin 6Y

Public Speaking
The public speaking competition was a great opportunity given to us during Term 3. I learned a lot more about the topics that our class chose than I did before. Last year I wasn’t comfortable with public speaking. However, the public speaking competition definitely built my confidence in talking to an audience compared to last year and now I can look back and feel proud of how I have improved in public speaking. - Ektaveer 6Y

Year 6 Camp experience at Canberra
Parliament House was amazing, but the best part was doing the role play – I learned lots. Also, it was the first day of the Albanese’ Government and the Governor General was there too, but we didn’t get to see him. - Despina 6X

Parliament House is where laws are made, in the House of Representatives and the Senate. We even saw a giant Lego parliament house. - Sehajnoor 6X

At the War Memorial we were told amazing stories of different soldiers. We saw a remembrance wall with names and poppies. At Questacon we could do lots of experiments; there was even a room that simulated earthquakes. We went to the Royal Mint where our coins are made. At Geoscience Australia we touched an actual piece of the moon! – Yuvraj 6X

Transition to Hume Anglian Grammar
It has been a devastating loss for all the students and teachers of Colmont School (more formally known as The Kilmore International School) which was recently shut down at short notice. Everyone panicked, worried, and were shaken about this terrible news, which put the future of hundreds of students at risk, along with the teachers who had to find new jobs. Parents were struggling to find suitable schools for their children in a 2-day time frame. It was like we were stranded in the middle of the ocean, on a tiny island, with no help at all.

A lifeboat came along, and for us, that lifeboat was Hume Anglican Grammar. They told us that if we could gather a specific number of students, they would accept us. We feel so grateful that we are now attending Hume Anglican Grammar. What's even better, our old teacher, Mrs Uyehara, got hired as well! We were a bit nervous and uncomfortable going into a new school, but it took no time at all to settle in!

The school community have been friendly, kind, and welcoming. The Assistant Principal, Mrs. Riley, really helped us join in with other classes and even the Lion King Jr production play! It feels good to be a part of this community. Moreover, I feel lucky that I have got an opportunity to study at this school given that there are still many students who have not been admitted to a single school yet.
