Year 6 Canberra Tour - Donnybrook
The Year 6 Donnybrook Students had a fabulous experience with the Canberra Tour. After arriving, students toured a range of key places, including the Electoral Education Centre where they learned about the voting system in Australia, then Parliament House where they participated in a role-play exploring the roles in parliament and how a bill is passed. Students then became active at Questacon and the Australian Institute of Sport. They visited the War Memorial, National Arboretum Canberra, and the National Capital Exhibition where they learned about the history of Canberra. They also went to the Royal Australia Mint, Geoscience Australia and the National Gallery of Australia (NGA). Students were commended on their outstanding behaviour throughout the tour from several member of the public and tour presenters.
Throughout this tour, students will be given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy. The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist with costs of the tour the Australian Government contributed funding of $45 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate (PACER) program towards those costs.
