Year 5 at Sovereign Hill - Donnybrook
History came alive for the Year 5s as they visited Sovereign Hill for Year 5 Camp. We started our Camp experience with a visit to the Eureka Museum and Ballarat Art Gallery. These two stops set the stage for what would be a fascinating and exciting experience for the students at the old site of Sovereign Hill. Learning about the history of Eureka Stockade and the legacy it paved for Australian Democracy was not only a fantastic experience but a brilliant learning opportunity for our students.
Some of the highlights included the mesmerising Aura light show, taking on roles as students in numerous schools from back in the 1800s, visiting key locations in the Sovereign Hill Settlement and seeing gold melted and turned into a brick.
We should thank all the teachers and staff who organised the camps. Well done to the students who demonstrated the school values at all times during their visit.

I learnt about school in 1854. It was fun to dress up and act like we were in that period of time. My role was to open the door for the adults entering the classroom. Because of how well I did that role, I was awarded a special coin. - Harvir 5X

My favourite part was sharing a cabin with my friends. We played games and shared funny stories. I enjoyed the walks from dinner to the cabins because we walked through Sovereign Hill at night. - Mantaj 5Y
