Year 4 Camp - Mt Ridley
On Monday, 30 May Year 4 students departed for a three-day adventure to Log Cabin Camp, in Creswick. Once we were all aboard the bus, we started our 2 hour drive full of excitement, enthusiasm and a little bit of apprehension.
After arriving at camp and announcing the cabin groups (which was met by screams and excitement by students), we then went off to complete our afternoon activities. This included Possum Glide, Archery, Giant Swing and Canoeing. We had so much fun completing these activities, even though the weather was cold, and our fingers were turning purple. After a wonderful afternoon, we were all looking forward to our dinner of pasta and garlic bread. Once dinner was over, we played various team building games. To warm ourselves up after these games, we all headed down to the fire pits where we were shown how to shape damper onto sticks and cook it over a campfire. This didn’t seem too hard…but it was. The damper kept falling off the stick and bits were dropping into the fire. How on earth did the settlers ever make this work?…we would have all starved if we had to live off damper.
After a semi-good sleep (well for some of us) Day 2 dawned and off we went again. Our group activities included Dual Zip Line, Milk Crate Stacking, Orienteering and Frisbee Golf. Due to the crazy weather (yes it actually started snowing) we had to delay some of these activities and head inside before we froze. Once the weather cleared, we headed back out again, showing the wonderful resilience and persistent attitude that Hume students are known for.
After 4 sessions we were all tired, but we were looking forward to a tasty chicken curry dinner with banana and chocolate waffles and ice cream. The highlight of the evening was the amazing ‘Talent Quest’. The students performed various acts which involved dancing, singing, and magic acts. Everyone had a lovely time, full of enjoyment and laughter. Following the talent show it was straight to bed, everyone was tired and looking forward to snuggling into their warm sleeping bags.
On Day 3, we completed our last two activities and packed up our cabins. After saying thank you to the wonderful camp staff, it was time to board the bus and head home.
Year 4 Camp was challenging both physically and mentally. Students were required to step outside their comfort zone and work together to achieve success.
We all had a brilliant time on camp and loved spending time with each other away from the classroom. We would certainly go back if we could!
