Year 5 and 6 Book Nooks
Nothing gives children a better head-start in life than fostering a love of books and reading. Setting up a dedicated reading space that is comfortable and appealing for independent exploration of books, as well as shared reading with family, is a great way to encourage our learners to entice themselves into reading.
This week for the Year 5 and 6 Library activity, students were asked to create a cozy, comfortable, and inviting Book Nook (providing themselves with just another reason to fall in love with the world of books and reading).
Students used canopies and teepees to make themselves an enclosed spot. Many added cushions, blankets and “reading sofas” to make it easier to snuggle up with a great book. Some students strung up fairy lights for nighttime reading, and others created posters with the word “Read” in beautiful lettering.
We know that reading is one of the most important activities for young people to develop their emotional intelligence and understand the world around them. A Book Nook is a perfect way to create a welcoming, stimulating space inside the home for children to focus on reading.
Well done Year 5 and 6 students on creating your fabulous Book Nooks!
