Year 6 "Rockit"! - Donnybrook
Wednesday, 9 March witnessed the Year 6 students participate in the incursion, Project Rockit. Through fun and laughter, the message came through loud and clear. Use the Internet safely……Be a part of the SOLUTION not the PROBLEM.
Project Rockit was fun and entertaining, yet so informative and alerting. As we all know by now, the internet isn’t always the safest place. Project Rockit’s, main topic was on cyber bullying, how rumours are spread, how to deal with people who change the story to gain popularity, get views and to make you look bad. We played a game called Human Chain. The workshop girls got six volunteers. The first volunteer was told a story who then had they to act it out while the next volunteer watched, this continued till the last volunteer was asked what the dance sequence was all about, which obviously was different from the original story. This is exactly how rumours are spread! You may be wondering what you could do to end the chain of rumours? Well, you can simply step out of the chain and not tell anyone what you found out.
People tend to be way harsher online than in real life because no one knows who they are, so they do whatever they want. However, you don’t always have to listen to negative comments! On some social media apps there is help. They have a feature called a block and report button. The block one is used when someone has made an inappropriate or rude content that you don’t want to see or have anything to do with. The report button is used when you see an inappropriate post which could be harmful for you and others, and you report it to stop it completely.
The incursion, Project Rockit was a great experience. - Sukhmanjeet 6Y
Project Rockit was great fun. We enjoyed everything from beginning to end. Through the enjoyment the one question that arose was, “What does any of this have to do with cyber bullying?” Firstly, we talked about different social media platforms, like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Tik Tok, and how it is used appropriately. Then we started playing an impressive game called the Human Chain. It was fascinating! It was all about where a group of 4 - 6 people were selected and given a number in order from one to six. Then number 2 - 6 went to a separate room whilst the rest of us along with number 1 thought about a story where number 1 had to perform as a dance. One after another each volunteer acted out what the previous volunteer performed. It was fabulous! We learned how a miscommunication can cause a big issue and how we all should be part of the solution, not the problem.
To conclude the session, we finally got a scenario where for example, if some people erased technology and how could we choose to make the internet a better place? We all loved the incursion and through our laughed and enjoyment gained heaps of information. - Param and Despina 6X
