Be ‘PREP’ared 2022 - Donnybrook

The transition from Kindergarten to Prep is a momentous and exciting time in a child’s life. It is often one of the first significant periods of change that a child may experience in their life and could create some feelings of anxiety and apprehension. The transition to Primary school involves negotiating and adjusting to many changes including a child’s physical environment, learning expectations, new rules and routines, social interactions, and new relationships for both the child and their family.

Here at Hume Anglican Grammar, we aim to make this transition from Kinder to Primary school as smooth and stress free as possible.

Throughout Term 3, we conducted a number of Be ‘PREP’ared sessions across all three campuses, giving our incoming Prep students the opportunity to visit the school, familiarise themselves with the learning environment, get to know the Prep team, and even make some new friends.

These sessions have been purposely designed to give students a hands-on and accessible introduction to Primary school. The students participated in Storytime, singing and dancing, art experiences and PMP (Perpetual Motor Program) giving students the opportunity to develop some school readiness skills, in addition to interacting with each other in a collaborative way.

In the coming weeks we will begin our formal Prep Orientation Program where students will be provided with multiple opportunities to attend their respective campuses, meet their new teacher and see their classroom for next year. Our new Prep parents are also encouraged to attend our Prep Information Webinar to gather more information about this important time in their child’s life.

We wish our 2023 Prep students well as they finish kinder and prepare for school in the coming months. We look forward to officially welcoming them to Prep in February next year.
