On the Home Stretch

Things are really busy in the Secondary school, but there is a sense that we are on the home stretch. VCE examinations have been taking place and will wind up next week. It has been great to see so many of our Year 12 students coming into school to revise with their friends and to engage with their teachers.

We look forward to closing off the year with them at the Valedictory dinner next week.

Year 10 and 11 students have also begun their examination period and will soon transition into their 2023 classes. Our Years 7 - 9 students will also have their examination period in the next few weeks. In reflecting on this stage of the year, it is important that our students maintain a sense of perspective as the impending exams and associated results will not define who they are, nor their likelihood of experiencing success or happiness in their lives. I trust that the education provided at Hume equips our students with the skills and tools to navigate this period in a measured and mature manner.

For all students in Years 7 - 11, a range of activities punctuates the last month of their year at school. I would like to thank the staff that have arranged the activities and experiences that will make the last part of the year meaningful and enjoyable for our students.

Finally, I must mention the student leadership process. Our 2023 School Captains have been announced and it has been wonderful meeting with them and discussing their plans for next year. The process to select the remaining student leadership positions is underway and I have been impressed with the number and quality of applications. I feel confident that the culture of the Secondary school along with our student voice and agency will be in good hands in 2023.
