Prep Hands On Science - Mt Ridley

The Prep students were bubbling with excitement when they attended the Hands On Science Incursion. As a look into our next Earth and Space Science inquiry unit, students were invited to predict, observe, and reflect through various hands-on activities.

A particularly popular experiment had the Prep students studying the movement of water and air to learn how rain is produced. This was conducted using a cup of water, shaving foam and blue food colouring. Students observed that the blue food colouring (acting as rain) could only penetrate the cloud (shaving foam) if the food colouring was heavier than the shaving foam. They reflected that this was the same as rain and a cloud.

We are very excited to use this experience to further develop students’ understanding of how daily and seasonal changes in our environment, such as rain and clouds, affect everyday life.
