How the Government Funds Independent Schools

With the upcoming Federal election, and soon State election, it is expected education receive its rightful attention and consideration.

Hume Anglican Grammar, as with most independent schools, belongs to an association called Independent Schools Victoria (ISV). The ISV describes its purpose:

“Since 1949, Independent Schools Victoria (ISV) has been dedicated to diversity and choice in education. Through advocacy and support, we help families access schools that match the needs and values of every student.”

As you are aware, independent schools receive revenue from student tuition paid by families and from government grants, both Victorian and Commonwealth. How much a school receives from the Government is a complex thing, and with political debates and media coverage ongoing, the community may be interested in how it all works.

The ISV have created a short video, 4½ minutes, that helps explain a quite complicated model which determines the funding allocation of independent schools. You may find it here:

Hume Anglican Grammar is extremely grateful for the funding it receives through both State and Federal governments. We are fortunate that their contribution goes a long way in providing an outstanding education for our young people and allows the School to set fees making the Hume experience as accessible to as many families as possible.
