The annual House Swimming Carnival is a highlight on the Secondary School’s calendar. This year, participation hit an all-time high with students taking part in numerous 25m, 50m and novelty events. Additionally, House spirit was on display, with chanting and cheering constant throughout the day, showing that we each have a role to play in creating a wonderfully competitive, celebratory and supportive event.
At Hume we pride ourselves on our sense of community and this was clearly demonstrated in the pool during the staff versus student volleyball match. While two staff members came prepared with swimming gear, all other staff participants leapt into the pool dressed in their clothes. It was apparent that the lure of competing against Year 12 students for a chance at glory outweighed any concerns about a wet and soggy drive home. A close contest resulted in a close result, the staff ecstatic about a two-point win at the final siren.
Ultimately, Ridley House won the Swimming Carnival competition, followed by Craigie (2nd), Summerhill (3rd) and Olrig (4th). We congratulate all students for their participation in and contribution to a wonderful day, and particularly the age champions, listed below.
