There is much we do at Hume to ensure that the safety of our students, parents and staff is always a priority. We have detailed instructions for parents in terms of how to safely navigate the car parks at both the Mt Ridley and Donnybrook campuses. We fully understand how hectic morning drop-offs and afternoons pick ups can be for families.

Having said this, over the past few weeks I have been deeply concerned by some parents lack of adherence to our road safety rules. In particular, I have witnessed parents either dropping off or collecting their children and then failing to use the School crossing to get to their cars. I have also witnessed parents stopping their cars on the road and waiting for their children to go straight to their cars without parking. This is all deeply concerning given the amount of traffic flow through the carparks at both campuses. Parents are expected to reverse park their cars and walk their children to and from school using the crossings which are staffed to ensure that students arrive and leave the school grounds safely.

If parents are using the wait zones to drop off or collect their children, they must remain in their car and observe instructions provided by staff on car park duty. Parents should not leave their cars if they are in the wait zones because this obstructs traffic trying to line up.

I thank you all in anticipation of your cooperation in this matter and if you need any information clarified please do not hesitate to contact me at dp@humegrammar.vic.edu.au
