Last term, Year 7 students attended their camp at Lake Dewar. Both the teachers and students had an amazing time. Students were able to challenge themselves by taking part in a range of programs and activities, whilst taking advantage of the beautiful environment, sensational weather and great facilities. They were also able to continue to consolidate their friendships, solve problems together, work as a team, develop independence and be more socially responsible. Teachers also had the opportunity to build a stronger rapport with the students.
Below are the Year 7 Senator reflections, on their experience of the camp:
On Day 1, everyone arrived at school, ready to have the time of their lives. It wasn’t hard to tell how excited everyone was. Once we arrived at Lake Dewar Camp, we went to our cabins and started unpacking. Then, we started an activity to get to know each other. Once we had finished that activity, we were given our activity groups and were each assigned with 2 more activities. Some of the many activities were kayaking, a dual flying fox, geo-caching and stand-up paddle boarding, just to name a few. To finish off Day 1, there was a disco night. A DJ was blasting music while everyone was dancing. Camp was an amazing experience and I’m sure I speak for the rest of Year 7s when I say: Day 1 of camp was definitely a day to remember! - Jude Gibson 7A
On Day 2, it was a very foggy morning, and everyone was excited to start the daily activities. Before these began, the Year 7 students had breakfast. After breakfast we sat with our group members until the YMCA staff announced our group leader for our first activity for Day 2. Some of the activities were geocaching, gorge trek, raft building and tunneling. These activities challenged many students and provided us with a great opportunity to develop a range of social skills. Most activities at the camp involved teamwork, which was an invaluable way to strengthen and establish friendships. Later, it was time to eat dinner. After dinner, everyone went to their cabins to get their pillows for a MOVIE NIGHT! The Year 7 students had fun watching the movie ‘Yes Day’. It was a very fun night. Overall, camp was full of exciting adventures that will leave lasting childhood memories on all of us.
