As most of you know we have several students whose parents both drop them off and pick them up from school on a regular basis. This practice, by its very nature, means that every day we have numerous pedestrians crossing the road at car parks across the school at both campuses. At the Mt Ridley main carpark, we have our pedestrian crossing supervised by one of our traffic control officers and supported by a member of the teaching staff. Although we have these safeguards in place, I ask that parents please adhere to the following when driving within any carpark area across the School:
- A driver must give way to any pedestrian on a pedestrian crossing and must not overtake another vehicle which has stopped at a pedestrian crossing. When approaching a pedestrian crossing, drive at a speed that would enable you to stop safely. (Vic Roads Pedestrians and Sharing the Road)
- In a shared zone shared by both vehicles and pedestrians, you must give way to pedestrians. (Vic Roads Pedestrians and Sharing the Road)
- Please pay careful attention to the signal from the traffic control officer to slow down and stop or proceed.
- Please ensure all speed limits displayed across the car parks are vigilantly adhered to
Taking simple steps outlined above will go a long well to ensuring that our students, parents and staff are kept safe whilst entering or leaving the School each day. I thank you in anticipation of your cooperation in this matter.
