Sadly, this week we farewell Sheona Carter, Head of Curriculum - Primary as she leaves us to take up her new role. Sheona has been appointed the Head of Junior Campus at Launceston Church Grammar School, Tasmania. We wish Sheona all the best and thank her for her 2½ years of service to the Primary schools.
During Sheona’s time at Hume, her contribution has been significant, and she has injected the whole school with a new level of enthusiasm and challenged us all to approach teaching and learning with renewed energy. Her extensive experience and knowledge have been greatly appreciated and our culture of learning has advanced significantly under her guidance. In particular, the work done with whole staff professional development where Sheona played a key role in advancing our teachers expertise in a number of areas. Of note was her interest in student agency where students have been encouraged to contribute to their learning through voice, choice and ownership.
Sheona will be well remembered as a professional, articulate, passionate educator and mentor, and her engagement with junior teachers will no doubt make an indelible mark on their personal approach to teaching. That she has been appointed to such a prestigious school in such a senior role is a testament to Sheona’s talents.
To replace Sheona, from the commencement of next week, the responsibilities for the Head of Curriculum will be picked up by the two Assistant Principals - Primary, Luke Friend and Rebecca Riley. Working collaboratively in the combined interests of both primary schools, but also taking direct charge for their own sections, they will share the responsibilities for the remainder of the year.
