When thinking about school camps, we have to go way back to 2019 to remember the last Primary year level to have experienced time on a school camp. In November 2019, Year 3 students went to Mt Evelyn for their first camp, but since then, sadly, COVID-19 has restricted these wonderful experiences.
Finally, after 18 long months, camps are back on the agenda. From Monday, 17 to Wednesday 19, May, the Year 4 students from both Mt Ridley and Donnybrook campuses, spent 3 days at YMCA Anglesea. For many, it was their first camp encounter. I am very pleased to report that all students had a fabulous time as they completed challenge by choice activities and socialised with students across both campuses.
The YMCA Anglesea camp is a fabulous venue that offers experiences that students wouldn’t normally have the opportunity to do. These included canoeing, giant swing, orienteering, skate boarding, archery, rock wall climbing and kitchen garden experience. They even made their own smoothies and mixed the ingredients in a blender powered by a bicycle. It was a pleasure to see the joy on our student’s faces as they completed activities and reflected on their achievements. A big thank you to the Mt Ridley and Donnybrook staff and support personnel, Teaghan, Teagan and Claire (past students), who attended the camp and worked tirelessly to ensure a positive experience was had by all.
