Sights and Sounds at School

Dear Friends and Families,

‘This is what the LORD Almighty says: “Once again men and women of ripe old age will sit in the streets of Jerusalem, each with cane in hand because of his age. The city streets will be filled with boys and girls playing there”’ [Zechariah 8:4-5].

On Monday last week, it was such a joy to see the Preps tentatively coming back to their classrooms – some had even forgotten where they should go!

During the next few days, as more students return to their classrooms, we indeed look forward to seeing something of the fulfilled imagery of those words above from the biblical book of Zechariah, when the prophet saw God’s people coming back to the city of Jerusalem, after seven decades in exile in the city of Babylon (cf. Psalm 137: this is the basis of the famous Boney M song By the Rivers of Babylon). After a time of absence, the sights and sounds of children playing are once again witnessed.

How good it will indeed be to experience this sense of renewal at our school, when all grades are back for good on campus, especially in time for the beginning of the season of Advent, which anticipates the celebration of the birth of Immanuel – God with us – Jesus, at Christmas time.

Speaking of new things, the local parish of St. Peter’s and the School also anticipate the arrival of the Reverend Sheela Pandhare and her husband, Reverend Prashant Bhonsle. After completion of quarantine, they will be moving into the local vicarage in Craigieburn and then beginning their ministry in the area among us.

Their property has been in the process of being furnished by donations, and there are still a few items that are being sought:

  • Two table lamps and a tall lamp
  • Pedestal fan
  • Electric frying pan
  • Lawnmower
  • Whipper snipper
  • Garden hose

If anyone has any of these items and might be willing to donate it (or even buy a new one!), then do please get in contact with me at: waterhousep@humegrammar.vic.edu.au
