Year 1 Camp Experience - Mt Ridley
On Friday, 18 March, our Year 1 students attended their long-awaited Camping Experience Evening. The level of excitement and anticipation of the evening was clearly evident.
The Year 1 camping experience is part of the wider wellbeing focused camp program that we offer at Hume Anglican Grammar, designed to scaffold experiences in preparation for overnight outdoor education camps, that each encourage teamwork, sharing, problem-solving, creativity and resilience through fun experiences.
Even though it was an especially long day, this did not deter the spirits of 84 little people who couldn’t wait to stay at school after everyone else had gone home. Rotational activities, followed by a BBQ and a dance performance saw students through to 7:30pm.
The students started the afternoon eating afternoon tea together, then moved to 4 different activities. The activities included a scavenger hunt, an art drawing activity, sports activity and the highlight was the Wildlife Incursion, where students had the opportunity to touch, feel and hold a variety of Australian Animals. Dinner was delicious, hot, and yummy sausages devoured by all – including the teachers. Reverend Peter proved that lockdowns have not diminished his barbecuing skills!
We finished the night off with a live performance, from the Playground Craze Band. Students danced and sang about emotions and different social situations.
It was a brilliant evening for everyone involved and the Year 1 students are so excited for their next adventure.
