Lifelong Learning
Last week the three Primary Assistant Principals attended the Independent Primary School Heads of Australia (IPSHA) Biennial National Conference. We attended school tours and learned from keynote speakers with other school leaders from across Australia.
The conference theme was One Child at a Time. This was a lovely reminder that every child is unique with their own gifts and strengths and that each is on their own learning journey through our primary schools. We renewed our purpose of getting to know each child and providing exactly what each needs in order to reach their full potential.
Keynote speakers explored brain development in the primary years where we were encouraged to apply the latest neuroscience discoveries to our everyday practice. We heard about prevention and early intervention in mental health problems and the importance of forming solid relationships with our students. We discovered that when students’ unique strengths are unlocked, supported and celebrated, health and happiness follow.
School tours allowed us to see how schools are placing the child at the centre of their educational decisions and are making a difference in the lives of one child at a time.
I am now looking forward to putting my learning into action so that our students at Hume Anglican Grammar are known and understood, with their unique profiles and are provided with the right learning at the right time so that they can thrive both in and out of school.
