Olivine Reconciliation Week Acknowledgement Plaque Reveal
On Thursday, 2 June student leaders and the Donnybrook Primary School Choir had the privilege of joining representatives from Mirvac and Whittlesea Council for the unveiling of a Reconciliation Acknowledgment Plaque at the reflection pond near Gumnut Park in Donnybrook.
The event involved reflections from council representatives, as well as Donnybrook Primary Captain Kavina. House Captains Ekam and Jay read the story ‘Finding Our Heart’ by Thomas Mayor, a story reflecting on Australia’s past and encouraging all to continue moving toward a shared future. The choir performed a meaningful song based on reconciliation and two art pieces created by Year 4 students were presented at the event. This artwork is now proudly displayed at Shared Cup café.
The students involved represented the School with upmost pride. They conducted themselves in a manner that demonstrated both their understanding and respect for the significance of the occasion. Their exceptional conduct was commented on by the representatives from Mirvac and Whittlesea Council, bringing great pride to the staff in attendance and back at school.
At the conclusion of the formal part of the event, students took part in some Indigenous games and craft activities provided by youth workers from Whittlesea council.
Primary Captain, Kavina reflected on the event:
On Thursday, 2 June the choir and the captains when to the Gumnut Park lake and celebrated National Reconciliation Week. We had Mirvac and people from the Whittlesea Council come to see our brilliant presentation skills. We met some really kind youth workers and their names were Hans and Rex. Hans showed us how to make badges with his badge making skills.
Well done to all of the students and staff involved in the event. We look forward to future opportunities to join Mirvac and Whittlesea Council, as we continue to strengthen our ties with the wider Donnybrook community.
