Reflections is our online profile series which speaks to Senior students at Hume Anglican Grammar, asking them to look back on their time here at our school and also speak about what lies ahead in the future.

Tell us about your first day at Hume Anglican Grammar?
My first day at Hume Anglican Grammar was at the start of 2015, Year 4. I had Ms Pikos in 4A in Building 3 and Mr Corbin was teaching the other Year 4 class. Back then, there was only two small classes in our cohort, and it was still Junior, Middle, Senior school.

I don’t remember the first day exactly but, it was a challenging year for me, with a move to a new school and then during the Term 1 holidays my dad was in a motorcycle accident. The biggest thing I remember from Year 4 was just how much the school supported my brother (who was in Prep) and I. I feel that solidified my place at Hume Anglican Grammar and my trust in the people around me. I still visit Ms Pikos’ office sometimes.

What is your favourite subject and why?
This is an easy question. Visual Communication Design (VCD) is my favourite subject. I love VCD because I have a wonderful teacher, Ms Laleas, and I am working on things that directly lead me into the career I want to pursue. I am an incredibly visual person, and I love being creative. VCD is a wonderful class to be in. I am currently designing a community centre that will focus on teaching young people hands on skills for my final folio. I have had the opportunity to have my work in galleries, and it’s been a great release for me.

What is your fondest memory so far at Hume Anglican Grammar?
There are so many options to choose. From spending most of my year in Building 8 focusing on my folio, building a Live Shell Alert Bot in Systems Engineering, participating in the Band program, helping form the first school Youth Group and presenting in front of the School Board at St Pauls Cathedral. There are many fond memories, and I certainly can’t narrow it down to one. I’ve been given so many great opportunities over the years.

How has your time at Hume Anglican Grammar influenced your future pathway decisions?
Well before I came to Hume Anglican Grammar, I wanted to be an architect. My uncle is one and he has heavily influenced me. Hume Anglican Grammar has supported that dream all the way through. Subjects like Visual Communication Design allow me to spend terms focused on architecture, building model houses and so on. By completing two Year 12 subjects last year made my workload smaller this year allowing me to focus on my folio for my university Application. I’ve felt extremely supported this year, even with all the responsibilities I’ve held. Teachers like Mrs Jarvis, Ms Shatford, Ms Pikos and Ms Laleas have been there for me the whole time and uplifted me through it all. I am extremely grateful for the incredible staff members I’ve been able to meet here.  

What would you like to do or study once you graduate from Hume Anglican Grammar?
I would like to complete a Bachelor of Architecture at RMIT and eventually my dream is to own my own Architecture Firm doing residential Architecture.

If your friends could describe you in one word, what would it be?
Chaotic.

If you could have dinner with anyone, dead or alive, who would it be?
Keanu Reeves.

What is one thing you couldn’t live without?
Music.

What is one thing most people don’t know about you?
I ride a dirt bike and have just purchased a road bike in time for when I turn 18.
