For this fourth instalment of the Rockstar Readers series, we sat down with Year 7 student Prabhleen Kaur, to discover how reading voraciously has contributed to her life, “When I am reading books, I go into a whole new universe of imagination,” she says, “whenever I am sad or angry, reading a book calms me down.” Of course, books aren’t just vital for our wellbeing, but also for academic outcomes, “Reading has expanded my spelling and vocabulary, as well as increased my imagination.”
Our conversation turns to the characters that have stayed with us, “The character that most captivated me was Sunny from the 'Wings of Fire' series from Tui T. Sutherland. Sunny inspires me because she always looks at the bright side of everything.” The 'Wings of Fire' series is very popular in the library, with readers becoming immersed in the energetic, heartfelt and clever writing.
Finally, Prabhleen has some advice for budding readers, “Try reading types of books. You could just try out the first twenty pages to see if you like the book. If you don’t find the book interesting, then try something else!” For younger readers she recommends Geronimo Stilton, the series that sparked her love of reading back in Year 2.
It is clear the Prabhleen’s commitment to reading and books has contributed to her success at school and beyond. We are looking forward to watching her rising journey and know that she will make important contributions to our society.
