Year 2 students have settled well into their new classrooms with their new teachers. In Week 2 of Term 1, students participated in an incursion to develop their understanding of our Inquiry Unit’s central idea, ‘Properties of Materials affect the way they are used’. Using only newspaper, students were challenged to make a container to suit a specific purpose. They came up with some very inventive ideas, including popcorn containers, trays, cups, and pencil cases.
As part of the incursion, students also completed an experiment designed to demonstrate plastics lack of biodegradability. The students realised that plastic that does not break down can pollute our world and add to the growing landfill we produce. The students even made their own plastic! Following the incursion, a student commented that, “this was the best day ever and I don’t want it to stop”.
