Hello!

My name is Simran, and I am one of the Year 9 Student Representatives. I am extremely excited to be a part of this newsletter feature and learn more about my fellow Secondary Leadership team.

Where should I begin? Well to start off, I am an only child (it has its perks!) however, an extrovert. I love connecting with new people, spending time with my family and friends, and of course, laughing at their silly jokes. In my free time, I like to go bike riding, dance, watch movies and read (especially dystopia novels). This year, I have decided to extend my co-curricular involvement and discover my passions. I am currently learning how to play the piano and have joined the Hume Anglican Grammar Galway Debating team. Embracing new opportunities is also something I encourage as a leader through motivating my peers and encouraging participation in school clubs, programs, and sporting events. My favourite school subject is science, and my long-term ambition is to become a psychiatrist and normalise seeking mental help.

The term leadership is very broad and can mean different things to different people however, to me leadership encompasses someone authentic, who is willing to acknowledge their mistakes and effectively bring out the best in their peers through motivating those around them and open-mindedly taking in constructive feedback and suggestions.

All of us are leaders in our own way, you don’t need a title to fulfil leadership. I encourage everyone reading this to discover their own leadership style and make their mark. I decided to become a senator this year to create an open communication network with my cohort and better express their ideas and concerns. I wanted to be a part of our school’s decision-making processes and broaden my skill set as a leader. I believe I am very approachable and open-minded and through dedication always strive to complete everything to the best of my ability which demonstrates our school values of excellence and integrity.
