Shine - Maths Mentors - Donnybrook
As an integral part of our Donnybrook ‘Shine’ program, some of our Year 3 and 5 students have been taking part in our Maths Mentor program. For our Year 5s, the focus is leadership and mentorship development, with the bonus of mathematical consolidation. For our Year 3 students, the focus is Mathematical extension and enrichment through a range of challenging collaborative problems. Here are some reflections from our Year 5 mentors:
Getting to be a part of the Shine program is a great opportunity to teach our Year 3s new things, watching our mentee grow and do things outside of class. Watching little kids growing up beside you, and having little giggles being heard all the time is special. I have taught my mentee Yana lots of new things such as vertical multiplication and long division. It has been an extraordinary journey going forward and teaching my mentee Yana. - Elina 5X
I am very fortunate to be a part of the Shine program. I am a mentor to a very talented Maths student named Aiden. I am extremely looking forward to working with Aiden, to push him to his limits. I enjoy his work and the time and effort he puts into it. I gladly want to help and explain troubling questions to Aiden and give him the best experience as a mentee I possibly can. - Aryan 5X
Being a part of the Shine program was great over the past two terms. Teaching my own mentee couldn’t be more fun. My mentee was a great person to work with, and I even learnt a few extra responsibilities myself, such as patience. I hope my mentee experiences the best in his education and that he enjoys the rest of our journey with me as his mentor. - Luresa 5Y
Being a part of the Shine program is an exciting opportunity to watch our mentees grow. Teaching Aarin has been an extraordinary journey which I am excited to continue next semester. Being a Maths Mentor has taught me a lot; patience, as well as how to teach younger kids. I really hope Aarin will excel in his Maths as well as his studies and become a Maths Mentor one day too. - Trisha 5X
Having an opportunity to become a Maths Mentor has been an amazing adventure. I have taught my mentee a lot of things, but she has taught me more. She has taught me patience and how to teach younger kids. I hope that in the future, my mentee Simran will become a Maths Mentor and learn the same skills I have. - Aanya 5Y
This semester, I have been picked by my teacher to be a part of the Shine Maths Mentor program. My mentee is Aavya. Aavya has been learning a lot and I have been improving my leadership and mentorship skills. I am happy with how Aavya is so willing to learn new things. One day, I hope that she will be an excellent mentor like me. - Aradhna 5Y
I am so proud of being a part of the Shine program and being a mentor. This year I am looking forward to learning new things and teaching my mentee Eknoor new things. One day, I hope Eknoor might also be a Maths Mentor. - Abhijot 5X
