Staff Profile - Tamara Vasiliadis
In this edition of Meet the Team we are speaking with Tamara Vasiliadis our Year 9 Coordinator. Tamara began her journey at our school in 2020 as a Secondary classroom teacher shortly before the commencement of lockdown restrictions and a move to remote teaching and learning. Tamara later accepted the position of Year 9 coordinator in mid-2021.
What do you like most about working at Hume Anglican Grammar?
Firstly, the staff. I moved here in 2020 and in a reasonably short amount of time I have developed some really good friendships and so much respect for the people I work with.
Secondly, it would have to be the students. I have worked in 2 other schools and the students here are wonderful, they are polite, respectful and really easy to build rapport and a strong working relationship with.
I also love the community feel that Hume Anglican Grammar has created, I studied at a small Independent School myself and it feels so much like that.
Can you tell us about a project you are currently working on?
At the end of Term 3 we ran our Year 9 City Experience for the first time since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. As a team we redesigned the format of the project and made it student-centred, and inquiry based. Right now, I am analysing the feedback that has been provided and hopefully making changes to improve it further for our Year 9 students in 2023.
Who has had the biggest impact on your career and why?
My VCE teachers, in particular my Legal Studies teacher, Mr Diston and my Psychology teacher, Mr Wilson. I literally followed in their footsteps studying Psychology/Legal at University and now teach it myself at VCE level.
I have also had a lot of support both at our school and previous schools allowing me to pursue my leadership aspirations.
Fast Four:
If your friends could describe you in one word, what would it be?
Loyal – I would do anything for the people that I care about.
If you could have dinner with anyone, dead or alive, who would it be?
I can’t really nail it down to one person but a group dinner would be:
Michael Jordan, my nan, my cousin Kara and George Clooney
Favourite travel spot?
We love Hawaii. My husband and I got married there in 2010 and we have travelled back 2 more times since.
What is one thing most people don’t know about you?
I’m way too organised – I’ve literally planned and organised Christmas each year by the end of June. I also make really detailed itineraries when we go on holidays.
