Staff Profile - Theresa Prior

Introducing our fun and inquisitive Year 1 Teacher, Theresa Prior. Theresa started at Hume Anglican Grammar as a Casual Relief Teacher in November 2021. She was then given the opportunity to work with a wonderful Year 1 class at our Donnybrook campus on a permanent basis towards the end of Term 1, 2022.

What do you like most about working at Hume Anglican Grammar?
The overall atmosphere at Hume Anglican Grammar is one of positivity – there is always a smile and a friendly greeting from all community members, students and staff.

What does a typical day in the office look like for you?
As a classroom teacher, my day starts off with getting our classroom and resources ready for the day. Sometimes I’ll have a meeting with parents or other staff members before the students arrive – education really is a team effort.

Once our students arrive in the classroom for the day, it’s ‘all systems go’. We fit many learning opportunities into our day. Some days, I have yard duty during lunch breaks and once the students go home for the day, I either complete assessment of student work to inform my teaching for the next days and week ahead or attend staff meetings where we collaborate on student learning or professional development. No two days are ever the same, that’s for sure!

Who has had the biggest impact on your career and why?
I have known I wanted to be a teacher from the time I was about 8 or 9 years old – so honestly, any great teacher I’ve ever had along the way throughout my own education has shaped the teacher I am today. From funny and quirky Ms McCollough at my first primary school, to the motherly, caring Miss Lucas at my second primary school; and to the story-telling maths whiz Mr Dewhurst at secondary school or to my many amazing colleagues, I think we have a lot to learn off each other.

Fast Four:

If your friends could describe you in one word, what would it be?
Driven

If you could have dinner with anyone, dead or alive, who would It be?
Emmeline Pankhurst

Favourite travel spot?
Nothing beats waking up on a quiet, frosty, clear morning to see the fog gently lifting off the mighty Murray (Dhungala) River as I sit back and enjoy a hot cup of coffee!

What is one thing most people don’t know about you?
I don’t really like lollies – but chocolate on the other hand…
