The first day of a new school year is incredibly rewarding on many levels.
It is with much anticipation that we have waited to welcome our students and parents back to the Primary school for the 2021 academic year. The first day of a new school year is incredibly rewarding on many levels. Greeting students as they arrive on their first day is one of my favourite moments of the year. There is a sense of excitement and renewal as all in our community prepare to embrace the challenges and experiences that lie ahead.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank our staff for the many hours of preparation they have put in to ensure Day 1 Term 1 is a positive experience for all. In particular, I would like to welcome our new Primary staff. Mrs Lara DiCecco who joins us in Prep, Mrs Amanda Schuch in Year 4 and Mrs Liz Gibson who joins our Learning Enhancement team. We look forward to the wonderful contributions our newest members of our community will bring to the Primary school.
On Thursday, 4 February, 84 new Prep students made the long walk from the carpark to the Piazza carrying their school bags and wearing their new school uniform. Despite some tears from students and parents, it was a wonderful day of celebration and a magnificent milestone that will be long remembered.
The first week of school was indeed busy. We began the year with our Primary school Commencement ceremony which marks the formal beginning to the 2021 school year. As we are still operating under COVID restrictions, the ceremony was broadcast live to Year 1 – 4 students and staff with the Year 5 and 6 students joining us face to face in the Central Gathering Area (CGA). Teaching staff in attendance wore their academic gowns (which would have looked rather peculiar to our younger students) and our Principal, Mr Sweeney, gave his opening address.
Primary school parents also had an opportunity to hear from their child’s Homeroom teacher as routines and expectations were shared at our Information Evening. We hope you found these sessions informative.
On behalf of the staff, we again welcome you to the Primary school and look forward to another busy a rewarding year at Hume Anglican Grammar.
