Year 4 Donnybrook AFL Clinic and Camp Experience
Wow! What an exciting time Year 4 Donnybrook students have had over the last two weeks. We started with an involvement in the AFL clinic. Each class were involved in two sessions. One on handballing and the second on kicking. They used the skill of handballing in several fun and exciting activities. For some of the students, it was their first time. They demonstrated resilience and perseverance. The second session, the students were shown how to kick a football. Lots of laughter was heard and many smiles on their faces. It was great seeing all the students trying their best. Working towards a kick that went further and straighter.
On Wednesday, 1 June students boarded the bus to travel to Log Cabin Camp in Creswick. There was a real buzz of mixed emotions. Many were overjoyed, laughing, talking and couldn’t stay still. On arrival, the students met with the Mt Ridley Year 4 students and teachers. They played some games run by the staff at Log Cabin Camp, before eating lunch together. After a few rotations of activities, the students met with the students allocated in their cabins for the next few days.
Throughout the camp, students participated in canoeing, flying fox and the giant swing, possum glider, milk crate stacking, just to name a few. Students were tested with new experiences and challenges. The ability to take risks, have trust in others and show team building skills was amazing to witness by all staff who attended. As the last day approached, there were many tired students and teachers. They have come back with many stories that they will be telling for many months to come.
