Year 5 Poetry - Donnybrook
This term, the Year 5 students have been learning about poetry. They have explored different elements of poetry and how to use writing devices such as similes, metaphors and personification to enhance meaning. Free verse poetry is an open form of poetry which is commonly used in modern writing. The Year 5 students experimented with this style of writing and created their free verse poems.
Blue
Blue is like the glorious night sky,
it matches her midnight blue eyes.
Blue is like the spirit of a lost angel,
trying to find their way back home.
Blue is like a lonely tear drooping,
down a crystal-clear glass window.
Day and night it slowly drips and dissolves,
being forgotten and never seen again.
Blue resembles peace and happiness,
in a way it helps during my hard times.
Blue is like mythic rain drops,
living their happiest lives and leaving a satisfying sound.
Blue is like the vast wind that
instantaneously blows.
Blue is like a star ready to shine bright and gather all attention
before its sorrowful demise from the collision of a meteorite.
Blue Is like Ragnarök’s mystic abilities,
making the waves scream.
He can make the waves tower over him
and obey his very wishes.
That’s what I think about the colour blue…
Sinister
Ethical
Quivered - Samrath 5X
Rain
The sinister howls of wind tickle my spine
It’s a great big shower everyone can enjoy
The mysterious sight of droplets is like a trip to the divine
Oh, how the smell of awakening grass brings me joy.
The thunder is a great big phenomenon which I quite celebrate
The flashes of light represent tonight
As the greatest darkness I elevate
From yesterday’s horrible memories.
Centuries go by
The rain says goodbye
While I still deny
Oh lord the greatest sorrow
Is when everything stops.
My memories pop
As droplets bomb my window
Oh, how the rainfall is so meaning full to me
As my brain starts rowing a boat
I just need to stay afloat. - Ishaanjot 5Y
